PENGGUNAAN BAKTERI NITRIFIKASI UNTUK BIOREMEDIASI DAN PENGARUHNYA TERHADAP KONSENTRASI AMONIA DAN NITRIT DI TAMBAK UDANG

ABSTRACT. Increasing of concentration of organic material in fishery system such as prawn pond as the impact of artificial feed (pellet) is difficult to be avoided at the risk of decreasing water quality. Bioremediation using bacteria activity is one of effort to overcome decreasing of water quality. A research of using nitrifying bacteria as bioremediation agent to water quality was done in tiger prawn pond in Karawang - West Java. The objective of this research is to elucidate the influence of nitrifying bacteria to water quality of the pond. Two test pond of each of 2000 m2 consisted of test pond treated by bioremediation and control pond without bioremediation. Density of prawn seed is 30 individuals per m2. The research is done for 120 days and sampling of water was done periodically every 10 days during 4 month. The pond treated with bioremediation was inoculated by bacteria consisted of nitrifying bacteria and denitrifying bacteria with the ratio of 1:1. The abundance of bacteria inoculated is 109 cfu/mL. The dose of bacteria are as follows; at preparation stage is 150 L/ha, at month of one to two is 50 L/ha every 10 days, month of 3 to 4 is 100 L/ha every 5 days. The results of water quality analysis indicated that nitrifying bacteria as bioremediation agent capable to restore water quality condition of the pond and concentration of amonia and nitrite stays below toxic concentration for prawn aquaculture.
